- ...the second year (2004)...
-
As the months passed, our children
encountered the same obstacles as children everywhere: illness,
scratches and tears. But they also had laughter and lots of fun.
And so, step by step, they made
tremendous progress, from one developmental stage to the next.
Through phone calls and letters, our dear on-site "correspondents"
kept us up-to-date about the children's progress and the functional
aspects of the school. But by the second half of the second year, it
became clear that "we" had outgrown our accommodations.
Within the welcoming walls of the New Apostolic Church, our project
had grown into a successful kindergarten. But restoring the rooms to
their intended use each day became increasingly challenging. Every
day all the materials the children used needed to be placed in
cardboard boxes and tucked into a corner, to make room for the
church activities in these rooms. Teachers also had to stow the
children's furniture. There was no way to display the children's
artwork, and doing long-term projects was out of the question. And
unfortunately, the NAC in Diani had no sanitary facilities, which
presented a special challenge when caring for young children. A
change was necessary.
Back in Bremen, the members of the local New Apostolic Church heard
about these difficulties. Spontaneously, they decided to help,
pledging half the proceeds of an upcoming youth choir concert and a
pre-Christmas bazaar toward the acquisition of a plot of land in
Diani Beach. Thanks to the unselfishness of all involved, these
events were a smashing success - yielding a donation of Euro
5,000.47!
